Committee on Economic and Media Affairs, Infrastructure, Building and Transport, Energy and Technology
18 members of Parliament in total belong to the Committee on Economic and Media Affairs, Infrastructure, Building and Transport, Energy and Technology ten CSU members, four SPD members and two members each from the FREIE WÄHLER (FW) and Alliance 90/The Greens (GRU).
The committee was set up by the Bavarian State Parliament in 1950 at the start of the second electoral term by merging the Economic Committee and Transport Committee, which were still separate during the first electoral term. At the start of the 14th electoral term, the responsibilities were expanded to include technology policy, and in the 15th electoral term, regional development and land use planning and information and communications policy, specifically telecommunications.
In the 17th electoral term, its responsibilities were expanded again to include media, energy and the turnaround in energy policy and promoting research, in line with the new departmental responsibilities of the Bavarian State Ministry of Economic and Media Affairs, Energy and Technology. The committee‘s range of duties is therefore essentially the same as that of the Bavarian State Ministry of Economic and Media Affairs, Energy and Technology whose work the committee monitors and scrutinises. If the committee deals with transport, road building and building regulations issues, it touches on the Bavarian State Ministry of the Interior, Building and Transport‘s area of responsibility, and with regional development and digitalisation those of the Bavarian State Ministry of Finance, Regional Development and Regional Identity.
The committee tackles issues that are of particular importance to the Free State of Bavaria, such as promoting SMEs and start-up businesses, tourism, innovation, technology and renewable energies as well as regional structural policy. The committee therefore makes an important contribution to further enhancing Bavaria‘s attractiveness as a business centre, to organising a competitive and forward-looking economic structure in industry, the trades, retail and service provision businesses and to maintaining and creating jobs.
In special cases the committee also hears experts to prepare for decisions. It also deals with a number of petitions and complaints that come under its area of responsibility.
The Committee on Economic and Media Affairs, Infrastructure, Building and Transport, Energy and Technology Meetings
The meetings always take place on Thursdays during sitting weeks. They are convened and chaired by the chairman. Besides the committee members and head of the committee office, state government representatives responsible for the specific agenda items also attend. With important political issues, responsible members of the government are also present. The Bavarian State Parliament‘s shorthand writers’ service documents the meetings.
